It’s about to snow here our neck of the woods…the first real and substantial snow of the season. What did I go to the store and buy? Not bread. Not eggs. No. I bought stuff to make wassail.
Wassail is a warm and cozy drink our family enjoys in the fall and at Christmas but who says it can’t be enjoyed in January? Not this girl!! So I have it a small pot simmering on the stove top. Not only does it help my house smell wonderful but it is also a mug-of-warm goodness.
We loosely follow a recipe from a former pastor’s wife. Here is what I used and how I made it today:

You will need apple juice, cranberry juice, red hots (any kind-I just happened to find Valentine chewy ones), cinnamon sticks and whole cloves. Sometimes I add slices of oranges but I didn’t remember to get them.
Depending on the amount you want to make will determine how much of each you’ll use. I used about 1/4 cup of red hots, half the bottle of apple juice and about 1/4 of the bottle of cranberry juice. I added 1 cinnamon stick and about 6 cloves. sinner over low heat. The red hots will melt and you will love it!
To make it a bit healthier, you can use low-calorie juices.
Stay warm and cozy, friends!

You are so right. Why wait for holidays to eat/drink something special. Years ago I had a conversation with my friends mom about good dishes and when I used them. She told me to use them daily because my family was the most special people in my life. I have been using the good dishes since that conversation.
