Does anyone remember the preschool Sunday school song,

Oh be careful little ears what you hear Oh be careful little ears what you hear For the Father up above is looking down in love So be careful little ears what you hear

I am standing in my office on this Tuesday afternoon getting ready to wrap up my things for the day. I have a kiddo who has baseball practice in a little over an hour! #momlife

ANYWAY, as I spent the day preparing a sermon for our senior adult service, prepared for the next few week's Sunday services, responded to emails, sent a few much needed ones, and got things together for this week's Wednesday night Bible study I have been listening to my worship playlist in Spotify. You know what hit me? Several things.

First, God's people are STUPID talented! Like, the anointing that rests on those who have written these powerful songs and the skill and development it requires to play the music...good golly.

Second is that while I have no problem with a lot "secular" music, other than show tunes or movie soundtracks, I don't really have a desire to listen to anything else. What I play feeds my soul and keeps my heart and mind aligned with my Father, the Creator of everything. The richness of the lyrics that declare His glory, His goodness, His faithfulness, His power, His holiness, those are the lyrics of my life.

Hear me. If you listen to music that doesn't fall under the Christian Music umbrella, it's ok. But just with our diet, everything in moderation, right? I'm saying that what we need MOST is what is God-honoring and soul-edifying.

I can't tell you how many people tell me they wish they knew more songs that we sing in church or that they weren't so discouraged throughout the week. The question I always ask is two-fold. How much time have you spent in the Word of God and prayer and what are you listening to? As the old saying goes, garbage in-garbage out. Yep. I said it.

I get that music is personal. But can I challenge you today to spend the next 48 hours and only listen to music that sings God's heart and declares His majesty? You can start with my playlists! I have several but two I'll link here and you take your pick. I think you'll see my style and taste is wide and varied. God is creative! He has made His people to be the same. I think you'll find something you enjoy.

Happy listening!
