It’s been a very long day.

Hearts are breaking and words fail us. The things we’ve seen in our nation’s capitol are like scenes from a movie or what we’ve witnessed on the news in other countries. It’s almost impossible to take it all in and process what it means.
Regardless of convictions, it’s clear to see that we as a nation are broken. Our faith and trust has been misplaced for far too long and we are being called to face that.
I am reminded of the times in scripture where Gods people turned their backs on Him but a brave and God-fearing leader would call them, the entire people group, to repentance and would read the scriptures to the them for hours; would pray on their behalf.
I am just me. Nothing special and for sure not a national spiritual advisor or leader. But I can’t escape the feeling that any and all of us whom God has called to be shepherds and leaders of His pastures are a sort of Jonah moment. Will we run into Ninevah, pleading with anyone who will lost to turn back to God or will we bolt the opposite direction in fear and cowardice? Will we be grateful for the message a merciful, yet just, God has given us to proclaim that sets captives free or will we be angry and bitter that He would forgive “someone like that?”
Maybe, just maybe, this is our “for such a time as this.” Maybe it’s our Ninevah call. God help us as Your people rise up to this occasion in full faith and confidence that Your arm is not too short to reach and rescue the broken hearts of humanity from the despair and anguish and anger and rage that has taken over.
May we who call You, “Father,” turn to You, faces to the floor, knees on the ground, hands open and held high in surrender and ready to do what it is You have for us to do.
